    • Hi Darren,

When you say “replaced”, do you mean replaced with new PPE or do you refer to how often it should be changed with clean PPE?

        • Hi Darren,

Some PPE may not necessarily expire, but all protective gear must remain in good and safe working condition. For example, gloves with rips render them useless when working with chemicals. So inspect your PPE regularly and replace it when you find damage.

There are no specific guidelines for the replacement of PPE. The best practice is to follow the instructions of the supplier and also keep single-use items like gloves in mind. PPE should never pose a risk to Food Safety or put an employee at risk of injury. Keep in mind there are 2 types of PPE in the food industry: PPE that protects the employee from injury and PPE that protects food from contamination.

Signs that your PPE needs replacement:

The expiration date indicated by the supplier has expired or is nearing expiration
Rips, tears, holes, or visible damage
            Discolouration or material degradation
The number of owners the gear has had or how long it has been in use
            Missing components
